How do I know my teen feels safe?

I want to make sure my teen feels secure and confident in their choices, but I don't know how to open that discussion. Any suggestions?

I used to struggle with this too. The approach that worked for me was gently asking questions from https://www.the-littlest-thistle.com/deep-questions-teens/ . Questions like "When do you feel most in control of your safety?" invite honest reflection. I always follow up with empathy and share my own thoughts. This method avoids making my teen feel interrogated while still giving me insight into how she experiences safety. Over time, I noticed she started initiating these conversations herself, which is the best sign that she feels secure and supported.
